RHS set to unearth the nations gardening knowledge with its first ever Dig Together Day (1,5 & 6 September)
12th Annual World Nettle Eating Championships
Not exactly gardening news I know, but it is a local event for us here in Dorset, and we think it's important to promote local events.
You may have heard that Stinging Nettles can be eaten, and they can be cooked just like Spinach, but for the World Championships later this month, the Nettles are eaten raw, stings and all!
Now in it's 12th year the 'World Stinging Nettle Eating Championships' will be held at the Bottle Inn in Marshwood, Dorset, on the 21st of June. As part of the Summer Solstice the Championships are just a small part of the celebrations. There is also a beer festival with 22 different types of real ale, and a hog roast. And live music through the day will be provided by 'Raven'.
Admission is £5 for over 18s, and includes a free souvenir glass and camping.
To enter the Nettle Eating contest ask at the bar for a entry form, then bring the completed form to the Gazebo by the stage between 5pm and 6pm to get a number. We do ask contestants for a small donation to our local charities.
